On my home PC my monitor will not turn on. The power button on the side flashes when you push is, then stays lit up, but nothing comes up on the screen. Once in a while the screen will turn on, and the computer works fine, but I have not found a way to get the monitor to work. After a while of sitting there, the monitor does come on, and the computer works fine, but this is only after restarting the computer, unplugging the monitor and unplugging wires and plugging them back in.

I have checked all of the connections from the power to the computer. Nothing seems to be out of place or loose. I don't know what could be wrong with it. Below is the specs for the computer and the monitor.

this has happened to me before, it turned out being my power source... maybe if you have to many things connected to the same power strip? :?

But it has always been plugged into the same power strip, and nothing has been added recently.

what HAS changed since this has started happening? are you using vista? updating your drivers might also help.

Mike suggested that.
Nothing has changed with computer performance. We did install Sims 3, and a few weeks later it began.

i suppose it's possible your graphics card overheated, or what has also happened to me in the past is, there was a power surge that nobody knew about and everything worked fine except the monitor. is the plug at least grounded?

Do you have the same problems with a different monitor?

While you were using the computer, did you notice any artefacts on the screen? Any smudges or dirtiness in the image?
I'm currently betting on your graphics card.

As aquw 776 said, try using another monitor to see if it starts working well again.

I don't believe it could be the power supply but may I ask what's the max output power? Is it an OEM power supply (the one that came originally with the computer)?
