It's been decided that we will go ahead with it. Mike and I are currently talking about what the best way to implement it would be from the software perspective. With that being said it will most likely be home made, so don't expect it instantly (within a few days...)

What would help us greatly is if we had ideas about what kind of medals would go into this system. Ideas that include the name of the medal and what it's for would be greatly appreciated. As always, try to be descriptive. If you're vague there's a chance we won't know what you're talking about and that just makes your idea less likely to be used. If you're graphically inclined you could also create some concept images that we may use if we implement your medal. The images should be small (32x32) and easy to distinguish.

So all in all if the discussion would shift to what kind of medals we'd have that would be great.

All users that have been registered for "x" amount of years and remained active throughout (if activity is easy to verify) are rewarded with a Time Rune medal

just for frame of reference: Image

Just like In the afl (aussie rules football), there should be a best and fairest medal for the person(s) that show the most kindness, helps others, and does things that help change the community for the better good. It dosent nessecarily have to be someone who's been here for (x) amount of years, or has (x) amount of posts, but someone who can make members feel at home. People that apply for it would be reviewed by staff. And if the person(s) is successful, would hold the rank for 6 months.

Also, would these people that recieve medals be ranked in the clan chat, or just on the forums??

Cheers, dafin0

Rsbandb tutor medal for making most submissions.
It could revive the submission/guide section a lot by encouraging other people to make more guides. Its so outdated its not even funny.

A lot of people that register in a community do it for the excellent guides, tips, quest walkthroughs, bla bla bla, that are provided.
The rs wikia community for example. I'm not part of it but I visit it all the time to learn, explore, etc, etc.

I do not think this is a good idea because it will probably mainly encourage people to do stuff for the medals and not to actually contribute to the community. It is looking like it will be too much like a ripoff of the RS achievement diary.

It is my understanding by reading the first post that these users would not be ranked at all.

And it just shows up on the left below your other stats.

That would be way below the user rank.

Lets get some proper big lists written up so theres massive amounts of choice. I'll put mine up sometime next weeek but lets try to go for more than just a suggestion aim for at least 10 if not more so theres plenty to work with.

how about medals for competition wins, former staff members, highest post count, donor, content generator, content updater, highest ranked on the rsbandb highscores, special recognitions(community awards, voted on by us and/or by staff).

-APRIL FOOLS MEDAL FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE FOOLED
-Being on the show medal
-Runewire medal? (having an RW account or doing something like that)
-Winning skotm or something (top 5)
-Amount of years spent on BnB (1,2,3,4,5etc)
-runescape themed medals (99s)
-Past informer/ events crew/ mods / admins /any other rank i cannot remember medals

I don't know if the medals would be sent out with a system (ie- the 3rd year anniversary of your BnB joining, you automatically get a medal for it) or if Mike and Shane would have to give it to you manually. I am thinking auto- sent, because manually would be a pain.
^sorry for the bad english, REALLY tired right now

And I think for some medals, like winning skotm, you should get multiple ones.

ie- You win skotm once- 1 medal
win 2 times- another one
3- another
etc

I think there'd have to be a one year requirement for any sort of staff medal so that people didn't just join a group for the medal and then didn't do anything for the position they were hired for. Of course depending on the reason why someone left earlier Shane could always give a medal(Like someone might work 9 months doing an excellent job but very serious RL issues prevent them from continuing but they let Shane know they won't be able to continue).

Brimmk wrote:
content generator, content updater

Both of those are the Content Crew's job, however a medal like that which would partly cover both would be a 'Content Submitter' one which required 50 pieces of submitted content that were needed and were accurate(meaning two people couldn't submit info for say the Dragon full helm and both get credit unless they both added different parts of info about it).

I didn't comment much before because it a medal system seemed a bit odd to me at first. I do have to agree with JRD that it's kind of like the Achievement diaries and achievement systems from other games. If it's kept under control and the rules(or guidelines for the system, as I expect there will be?) specifically note that if the Mods/Admins think you're doing something(Like hardly submitting any content or making posts on the forums for post count which don't really do much for the topic) just for the medal that they have they right and ability to freely take away any or all medals.

Veteran Staff Positions (Has been a member of a staff group for atleast 1 year) [Kenny, Brimmk, Marco)
-The Veteran staff position medals would have different names for each group (EC might be 'Organizer', NS might be 'Writer', CC might be 'Inventory Control', etc). Possibly each additional year someone is a member of the same staff group (like being EC for two years straight) they'd either get the medal a second time or something like 'x2' would show up by the medal to indicate they've been there for two years. Having a staff position, then retiring, then returning could also count if they had worked enough time to get the medal before retiring and then worked enough after so that they had two years worked still.

All medal names can be changed of course.

27 enough? Probably not. Anyone have some more suggestions for medals?

Naa lets go for more. There all very practical now and that's great but lets put in some long term ones maybe some silly ones. I think 100 would be a good aim to go for and more if possible. There not all giong to be used so a big pool of ideas would be best.

I like the idea of one that's finding mike+shane in game just so they get chased everywhere and harrased for in game photos as proof of there meet. That one has to make it in. Perhaps another is finding a top 20 player and snapping a photo of them.

sig of the year winner, event participator, a medal for having 50 medals :P , die hard (tanking and not dying at a boss takedown/ having the lowest number of deaths in cs or some other fps), serial killer (highest kill ratio at fps event).

Should we go for medals according to post ranks (like getting rune, dragon member, etc.), or will it encourage people spamming for medals?
