Problem solved!

Okay guys here the run down.

My mom works at the local university and they gave her a computer that wasn't being used to take home. So she ended up giving it to me. It has decent specs 2G of Ram 3.0Ghz etc. When i fired it up, it had a bunch of junk on it so i decided to do a clean install and start over.

I tried to install windows xp from an old disk i had for a while back. After i finished installing it, i came to find that there were no drivers what so ever... After talking to Shane about the issue, he recommended i try to install windows 7. So i went to my MBP and downloaded the OS and burned it onto a DVD. I go back to the windows machine, and clean install once again, this time using the windows 7 disk that i burned.

My problem now is i don't have the correct graphics driver(s)

I'm assuming this because i am unable to change the screens resolution. As you can see from this picture, the option is grayed out. #-o

Here are the specs of the graphics from DrictX

Here is also the device manager showing a few of the incorrect drivers? i think?

To sum it up, i need to figure out how to change my screens resolution. And i'm 90% sure its a driver issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

If you need me to check on any other things from to the computer or to add certain screen shots please let me know.

Thanks for your time, Rice.

If it's a laptop you will very likely need to go to manufacturer's website and try downloading all the drivers for that model from their support section.

If it's desktop you can use the general drivers for Intel 865G chipset.
Click following link and choose your operating system from there. If you have Windows 7 just use Vista. (remember 32-bit or 64-bit)

Should of looked at the drivers before doing an install...

Who made the computer? Can you run a check on the model number to find the drivers associated with it?

Bingo! That's it.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloa ... osl=en&catid=&impid= (Windows XP is the highest these are for)

Although I'm not sure how they will run with W7, but there they be.

Not sure what all you're missing, but here should be the correct graphics driver since your picture you provided seems to match it.

Is there anything in the device manager that has a yellow exclamation or question mark next to it? Or anything else you are having problems with besides video? If you can't get it to work, I would suggest going back to XP since these are what the drivers are actually for.

If you do go back to Windows XP, all you will need is the driver to get internet working, then Windows Update can take care of the rest.

Here is that:

Also, get on AIM and we can talk better

Interesting. One of the reasons why I downloaded Windows7 was because I couldn't get the internet to work on XP. That would have been nice to know.

I'll try downloading the video ones now and see if that gets me anywhere.

Thankss for the time Tal.

Usually for Windows XP, all you need is to get Internet and then Windows Update will take care of everything else. But there is the occasion where you will need to visit a site and get the latest driver for your graphics card EX: The graphics driver for the Dell 4550 that I am using was a corrupted file from Dell. Every attempted on install would blue screen.

I will install it with you tomorrow.

To be continued...
