Good suggestions, but none of them are the reason behind my lag. I think a Steam update is causing it because I wasn't having any problems for a while and my network's had the same use as usually everytime.

Really strange because it goes in and out. I'll have 5 mins of -100 latency and then 15 mins of +800.

Eh, it was still fun tonight. I got my first double-kill too, so that was sweet 8)

Could also be due to something that I thought was fixed a while back, Steam / games causing lots of small read/writes in the Steam directory while playing a game. This often causes antivirus programs to begin scanning the folder, and will often slow the system down. If you read the post on the Rsbandb Steam Community page, you'll see what I'm talking about and how to solve the issue.

Just something else to look at.

Well, I had fun this week when I got a four kill streak but the lag on most maps was killing me.

I disabled scanning of the /appcache/ folder and I added some Traffic shaping rules in my router which should raise the priority of the traffic on the ports that HL2:DM uses so I will see if that helps next time HL2:DM is up.

With todays update to Counter-Strike Source, our GunGame server wont be in working order. I'm not sure if they have even updated the GunGame plugin to work with the new engine yet. There is nothing about the beta or anything on their forums so I think it might be a while.

So if counter-strike wins the poll, it will have to be regular game types. We could certainly get our server working for that.

I've started the update process on the server for it and it must be a way larger update for servers than it was for clients because the update has been out for several hours now and there are less than 5 servers total in the server browser in game.

If you guys play TF2, I'd like to suggest the Team-BRH servers. There's both a fastspawn 32 slot and standard 24 slot as well as a custom full of tons of maps.

There's even a drinking game mod, though Monday night probably isn't the best :P

This is the ideal time to buy Counter Strike as well. It's is super discounted -66% to $6.80 which is a heck of a deal. For all you people that haven't got it yet, now is the best time.

And to add onto this, if you haven't already noticed, it's out for the Mac. So you can join in on the CSS gaming when the vote is for that one. Don't worry, it's steamplay enabled which means that you will be able to play against PC People, if even they don't want you. :P My guess is HL2:DM will be soon so once that happens, all of the games that we play most of the time will be able to be played on both platforms, which might bring in more people. :)

@Brad, even if the turnout is poor (which, if history has taught us anything about TF2 events, it will be.. ) we'll still be at some random server with other people. Those who do attend will still get to blow some heads off.

As a side note, if the event is lacking at least 80% of the 8 people who wanted TF2, there really isn't a reason it should be offered again. It was one of our early choices, but nobody attended. Then when we didn't offer TF2, people wanted it. We've brought it back again, and unless the attitude for voting-and-not-attending declines, there really isn't any benefit to offering TF2 as an option anymore.

The good news is that I didn't vote for it, but since I got TF2 this week, I will be filling one of the absentee's spots. :D Granted, I can already tell TF2 is a totally different animal from CS:S or HL2, but I'm willing to learn and have fun so I can compete and start dominating all of you.

It'd be nice to try Golden Eye Source this week :)

Turnout for TF2 wasn't too bad. I think we had around 10 peeps at the peak. Had a couple good rounds and I think it was a decent success. I keep suggesting to buy all these games from the Steam sales going on right now. If you haven't done it yet, I'd suggest getting all the games for the PC event. Very worthwhile. I wouldn't mind if Goldeneye won this week. I'll just need to install it first and my vote always goes toward CS:S...sorry. :(

I've never heard of anyone getting banned randomly by VAC, it doesn't even work that fast when it does detect cheats. Try not cheating :P

I'm going to have to vote for hl2 again with our excellent turnout this week. We'll have to increase the max players higher, the server was full for most of the event!
