Free Graphics Programs: GIMP, GimpShop, and Inkscape

GimpShop -- Based on The Gimp, however revised to make menus like photoshop: Gimp Shop

Inkscape -- This is an Open source vector program. You can take a look at it here. You can see the download page here.

These links are both safe to download from. Both are open source. There ya go people.

ok, Here my Tut fpr Gimp

PLEASE NOTE: Please do not pm me asking questions about this. i would like the help but i am now using photoshop and forgetting things about gimp. Sorry for the inconvinience

Simple Grunge Signature Tutorial - Made In Original GIMP

Firstly you need to make a new image and use the size resolutions you want (RSBANDB limit is 600x300, SOTW limit is 400x150)

Making The Grunge Background

Now Take out your grunge brushes and set Opacity to 70 (get from here)

Start Brushing with black on a white background

Then Brush over the black brushings with white - Opacity still at 70

Repeat the Last Two steps 3 or 4 time untill you have to effect you want

Make it too dark and the colour with be too dark - too light and the colour wont work at all

This is what your image should look like:

Adding Colour

Click on tools>color tools>colourize and move the bars to see what colour you can come up with

Adding a Render

Go onto http://www.Render-world.com and select your render

Copy it onto a new image with a TRANSPARENT background with the exact same the same Resolutions

Now for the boring bit

you now have to erase the background of your render

Now copy and paste your erased render into your sig

Adding Text

Now for your text use the text tool to write out your text IN WHITE

Open the layers dialogue (dialgoues>layers) and right click on your text layer (will be called the text your wrote in) and click alpha to selection

Then click on Script-FU>Shadows>Drop Shadow and use: Offset X =2, Offset Y=2, Blur Radius=5, Colour=Black, Opacity=80, Deselect "allow resizing" and click OK

Then choose which Layer "mode" you want to blend in the text

DONT make the text too blended in we want to be able to read it

this is what i finished with:

Border

select your background layer and click select>all
:arrow:

then go onto select>Shrink and shrink by two pixels and invert (CTRL+I)

now choose your border colour (black or white)
:arrow:

and fill whole selection

Saving your image

Just type in your name for the signature and .png at the end

Any easier way to add borers is Script-Fu>Decor>Add Border. Great tut Landspeeder.

wow, gimp creators must be pretty confident giving it away for free, but judging by the looks of landspeeders sigs it isnt as good as photoshop, but for the ppl who dun wanna pay, this is the best ur gonna get!

GIMP is definately just as good if not better than Photoshop. My sigs are alot better than LandSpeeders and I make all of mine with GIMP.

erm, will gimpshop or gimp work on a low memory and bad cpu computer? photoshop crashes

ok...but then it asks me to flatten the image, i click ignore, upload to imageshack, but only the top layer remains; the rest is black.

p.s.---how do i download the grunge brush? it says nothing about downloading on the site

just one thing...is there a good site where one can get free fonts? the default fonts are no good, i need more, and my parents won't let me spend money on this stuff

k thx. oh and i found the font folder and i did the same thing as the brushes with the fonts, but will gimp not read ttf fonts? cuz they dont work
